Firstly, i would like to apologize to everyone who's reading this (whoever you are) for being absent for the longest time due to my work. now i'm back and the new year drew closer to us. this year, i would like to list top 10 of the best films i have watched this year (not the vintage classic ones, all made 2011/english language). so here we gooo!!!
10.The Rite : i never really liked horror movies, but i really enjoy this and from my personal opinion, the story was not exaggerated too much and it was done nicely.
9. The Muppets : Really love the muppets and this revival is their best yet!
8. Your Highness : Hilarious movie to watch!! It's been a long time since i see this kind of movies. A must see! Don't care about all the critics said.
7. Kung Fu Panda 2 : I've always love Kung Fu Panda. A kids movie that everybody can enjoy! Plus, it's Jack Black!
6. X-Men : First Class : To all x-men lovers out there, this is like a make up from the horrendus badly CGI'ed X-Men Origins : Wolverine. (I've watched it in the cinema, not on those pirated controversial dvd's. fyi)
5. The Green Hornet : How I love every film made by the most influential directors around, Michel Gondry. Plus, never thought Seth Rogen and Jay Chou could team up! (minus Cameron Diaz please! they could have just chose a different actress!!)
4. Hanna : Girl serial killer, hunky father (Uhuh!). Kinda reminded me of 'Leon'. Both are great movies. Always a big fan of Saoirse Ronan since Atonament.
3. Sucker Punch : Hot girls in sexy uniforms with guns!! Kicking Ass!! Zack Snyder!! Yeah!!! (i just sounded like a dude!)
2. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Part 2 : Saying goodbye to the Harry Potter franchise wasn't easy because i grew up with it. Well, Daniel Radcliffe practically the same age as me! This second part of the last movie was done beautifully even though most of the book was not put up and there were several changes in the scenes. *tear*
1. 50/50 : It's been a while since i saw a movie that was hard for me to digest. It was dark, heartbreaking, comedy, self-realisation type of movie. It was real and the actors (especially Joseph Gordon-Levitt) acted beautifully and real. Not those typical dramas that tries soo hard to make the audience cry for no good reason. p/s: This is entirely my personal opinion. Everybody's entitled to their own choices of movies right? Merry Christmas and have a blissful New Year!!!

SEKALI LAGI : DIRECTED BY HASHIM REJAB
(WARNING : MAYBE CONTAIN SPOILERS)

i was under the impression of the film might be good. it might relate to I Am Sam. so, i went to the cinema with an open mind (like i always do in most movies).

the film opened up with a point of view the life of mentally impaired grown man, Arman (played by Shaheizy Sam). for me the character was very charming and quite difficult to play. and i think Shaheizy really brought the character to life. wasn't your typical character that gave an impression that you should sympathized the person, but to live in his world. Sheila (played by Lisa Surihani) as a fractured heart single mother which i bought the fractured, broken hearted thing because it was all up on her face (kinda reminds me of the character she played back in Lagenda Budak Setan). i'm saying this as a good thing. but the mother part, not so much. maybe she was too young to have a kid that she has no idea how to deal with the whole frenzy of becoming one. she seems awkward (at times) being around her daughter Amy (played by the adorable Mia Sara Nasuha). she should have acted abit childish and not hardheaded because living with a kid your whole life might bring out the kid in you. Haris's (played by Bront Palarae) character was not highlighted in the story although maybe the director had no attention on bringing him up. however, the scene where Haris confronted his supposed future wife and she told him why he was defending a child who's not his own, it caught my attention. i was waiting on a flashback of Haris's life. but it didn't happen. Haris character almost seemed like he has no purposed in the movie at all (although i loved the character Bront played, almost like the only stable character in the film). a lot of the characters was not highlighted. even the mother (played by Kartina Aziz). why does she despised Sheila, can't be just because of their social status. that issue is so 1950's.

technically, i liked the camera movements, the angle and most of the shots were great. i really liked the lighting where Arman was devastated, looking at Amy's picture in his balcony. almost heavens-like. not much of experimenting however nothing made me hurt my eyes either. i really had problems with the sound though. if you wanna do 5.1, do it properly. i was confused whenever there's a voice behind me. sounded so ghostly.

ANYWAYS, I LOVE THE ENDING. by far the best MIG can offer. yep, that's right! MIG.

p/s: some reviews i've read said, do not compare Mia Sara Nasuha with Dakota Fanning in I Am Sam however, Dakota was practically the same age as her at that time. so their ability can be as equal. she has the whole package however needs to be trained more because she has a gift.

p/s: i thought Autisme only occurs on an early age and their symptoms are having problems being social with people and lived in their own world. they should have used a different term. maybe it was just an easy excuse for the mother to explain her child on his weird behavior.

more p/s: audiences were laughing at Arman's behavior after he had his surgery (wearing diapers and all). i thought they were crazy because how can u laugh at a scene that shows a human being is incapable of taking care of himself. this saddens me.

KL GANGSTER : DIRECTED BY SYAMSUL YUSOF

honestly speaking, this is the first time i've watched a film directed by SYAMSUL YUSOF. what i can see is that he has a vision of himself on how his film will look like. seems like he wants a certain pattern (or genre) to be marked by his name, same goes like Hitchcock or Francis Ford Coppola. well, i'm looking forwards on what he'll do next. proceed to the film.

this is the kind of film where bloodlines joins a gang and in the end, they have to fight each other. i liked the variety of characters in this film. some, i have mix feelings of. for instance, Malek's character(played by Aaron Aziz) should be all cool and macho, he just got of from jail, serving his time. he should came out as not making himself look big and mighty. and sorry to say mr.director (Syamsul Yusof), is Shark supposed to be chinese? the accent doesn't really work for me and i've known alot of people who has a slang. so i was abit confused throughout the film. i liked Jai (Adyputra), just because he's psychotic and he made me believe he is. just the cigarette-biting-thing is abit distracting. technically, nothing stands out but it's choreography. i'm like seeing a dance move so beautifully, it knock someone's out! alot of the supporting actors were great.

storyline, i didn't really know what to concentrate on, whether the life of the ex-con, or the life of gangsterism. to concern about technical and action sequence perhaps?

this film reminded me too much of a few Hong Kong films like Young and Dangerous. maybe next time we'll have our own style of Malaysian Gangster.

p/s: just a personal opinion. =)

A lot of things has happened to me, a lot of deaths, a lot of births, happiness, sadness, beginning, ending, miracles...but, an old friend has greeted me. Fear. I'm terrified of the future. I'm not sure what the future might be for me...I'll return to reviewing films whenever I get a grip of myself...

it's been a long time since i've reviewed something. well, here it goes!!

SUCKER PUNCH : DIRECTED BY ZACK SNYDER
(MAYBE CONTAIN SPOILERS!)
Yeah! Zack Snyder is back again with his loaded guns and human killing machine! he has been known for making adaptations of various books and comics. but this time, it's different! an original idea is put to the test! enough chit chat, let's get down and dirty!

what i love is that as you know i'm not a big fan of CGI however, Zack has his ways on making me feel fascinated with the graphics and the effects. the saturated colour and the mood, rough and dirty. i was looking forward for the fighting scene and i was not let down by it. the story line was abit confusing at first however i catch up real fast (considering how the pacing of the character were, pretty fast). i've been a fan of Emily Browning since "Lemony Snicket's : Series of Unfortunate Events", and her fat sexy lips! (ahaha!joking....but seriously!) Her character Baby doll, stuck inside a mental institution, trying to escape. To escape, she created a fantasy world while in reality, she's in fact dancing. she played an innocent, but bad ass girl in a sailor/school girl uniform with a cool revolver(with cute key chains) and a samurai sword. how bad ass is that?? i kinda liked the storyline and what exactly it was trying to say. like in life, we have to be free from ourselves in order to achieve something. i may be wrong, but it's just a one person's opinion. i love how the story twisted towards the end. like several characters died and who is the actual heroin is. and the fantasy land was, quite out of the point of the story, quite disturbing yet it turns you on! overall, love the cool rock and roll soundtracks, really puts you in the actual mood although the film is based in the year of 1950's. i love the arts, like the institution itself, the stage, the uniform was great. fighting scene technical and acting wise were superb!

what i didn't like was, some of the characters was kinda trying too hard to be sexy (although the costume given can give you an instant boost of sexiness). and is the institution/stage club real or not? which one is real? the dirty grey ones or the club with cabaret style ones??? enough said!

this film is recommended to the biggest fan of Zack, those perverted (yet decent) minds, girls who likes to kick ass, and those who might have a lady boner.

Words Of Profound Meanings

12:53 AM Unknown 0 Comments

words of profound meanings,
cramps into where my heart's desire,
slowly creeps upwards where gravity is the enemy,
rushes through like vomits of rejections,
in the public eye were ones observe,
the movements of an unclaimed dancer,
shivers inside out were hairs stands without will,
being the stranger of the community,
being the one to be accepted,
by this new life of another stranger,
seeking for that rush of blood pumping like a mad machine,
through the normal naked eye never shall receive,
if from the eye they try to see the wind,
while winds are invincible only to be kiss,
or caress with soft delicate texture,
how the wind and i become one,
two emerges to three when you decide to access,
without the logic that is dominating,
the human humanity of the civilization,
thoughts of this faded when you gave me warmth...

Can't Buy Me Love

by The Beatles

WARNING : THIS IS A 1 PERSON OPINION. DO NOT TAKE IT WAYYYY TO SERIOUSLY.

the remedy of valentine's day. flowers, chocolates, dinners etc. what a day to celebrate with your love ones. except of those who made comments about how "haram" it is. don't get jumpy with me here, i'm just saying. to make it clear that i am nether pro v-day nor anti v-day, i'll list down couple of things that in my PERSONAL opinion about this global celebration. FIRSTLY, it marks the day where a dude named Saint Valentine were executed for marrying a few soldiers to their choice of maidens. then, he wrote a love letter (more like the 1st v-day card) to his beloved. And coincidentally, a few dudes with the same name were given the same fate for some other reasons which was unknown because they were erased by history. nothing to do with praising any kind of religion or even a cult movement. SECONDLY, it's already a worldwide celebration. every card company, every flower shop, every chocolate factory has created a tradition which all of this things were to give on v-day. THIRDLY, depends on how the intentions of every person (or more specific, every couple) in this entire planet wants to celebrate it. if they feel like v-day is the perfect day to just celebrate, then where's the harm of it? However, v-day makes a guy cry for his money because the pressure of buying stuff for their love ones. Plus, a girl can really be pushy or desperate to make it as perfect as possible (like it was her wedding day!)

Honestly speaking, for me i personally love the whole concept of the celebration because there's more love all around. people walking together, holding hands, how sweet! However, i have little desire to celebrate because for me, everyday is a v-day! So my dear lads, do not Judge, do not be to narrow (i'm not asking u to be too liberal either), do some legitimate research and ask yourself. do not be like a 'lalang'. ditiup kiri, ke kiri, ditiup kanan, ke kanan. (a malay 'peribahasa')

p/s : i wrote this because i've read about this article. personally, yes it is a foreign cultural celebration, but same goes as Christmas (which is the birth of Jesus Christ), Deepavali (festival of lights/the return of Ramayana) and Chinese New Year (beginning of the Chinese calendar/beginning of spring). i'm not against this campaign but the purpose has to be right, and not because it's 'budaya barat' or 'berbau kristian'. just saying....

Recently, i fell sick and it was my worst nightmare coming back to hunt me. it was something that i didn't want to happen around this period (where i'm concentrating on my finals). but someone gave me the strength to keep on going. with his patience and his love, he stood up an became my wall to lead on. that person is just remarkable. i hoped that i'll have that kind of strength to return the favor one day, when he needs it. i'll be there...
