LOOPER : DIRECTED BY RIAN JOHNSON
(WARNING! MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS)
Looper is a story about a group of assassins signed to assassinate targets that has been sent by a criminal organization from the future. Looper's job is to terminate the targets so that the targets are whipped out, clean, like they don't even exist. However, things went south when Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) failed to terminate one of the target which was himself in 30 years time. Enough of the introduction, let's get down to business!
There were a lot of shots that I love about the movie! The camera work was great! My favorite was during Joe and his friends were doing this liquid-type drug and the camera just went 360 degrees. For someone who had never experience drug abuse, it showed me how marvelous it is to be trippin' with whatever they were taking. There were several shot using long lenses to get that great depth of field, especially when they want to focus on that big guns! Usually, Hollywood films like to use cool colours(bluish) to get that futuristic feel but this one is just nice. Even during the future scenes.
From the surface, time travel is the most fucked up thing to begin with. However my personal view of the story is that during a time of desperation, people's mind can easily focus on the negativity. The need to seek vengeance. They do not realize that it could only bring more pain in their lives and also, would bring out the worse in others. The whole past-future frenzy and different individual's motives in this film were planned nicely and if you really pay attention to the storyline, you wouldn't get lost at all. And the action sequence are nicely done, with a hint of coolness and unexpectedly awesome! Bravo to Rian Johnson for having this crazy idea 3 years ago!
Joseph Gordon-Levitt's acting is amazing! I'm not saying that just because I totally adore him, but his portrayal of the younger version Bruce Willis (Old Joe) is just remarkable. And those prosthetic makeup does not make him any less hotter! I almost forgot that he is actually regular Joe and not some dude who freakishly resembles Willis! As always, Bruce Willis has always been the great action movie star. He can be vulnerable and kick-ass at the same time! Emily Blunt (Sara); a young mother that you don't want to mess with (love her American accent)! Pierce Gagnon (Sid) is soo damn adorable, and scary at the same time!
There's a lot more things to talk about this film(pay attention to the art details, like solar powered cars etc).I would highly recommend you guys to watch this as this is the Anti-Hero movie that would leave you breathless! It's nerve wrecking, unexpected, twisted and heart-warming. Enough said!
P/s: When the movie finished and the lights in the cinema went on, everybody was quiet. I think the audience was trying to digest the story and it took them a while to do it. I find that amusing! :D
It was a series of unfortunate event I would say,
Then we've decided to create a game and started to play,
You were leading and I was catching up,
Not sure who was suppose to be on top,
Somehow rather it became a race,
You were speeding up however I got lost in my own pace,
You've tried to explain the rules and regulation,
I wanted to break it but I made this an exception,
I believed that this time would be different,
Until I started to follow the current,
That rocky river where the waters were rough,
You tried to save me, you thought you were tough,
Nether of us had any clue what we're doing,
Destination is in front of you and you had to keep on going,
You got torn, I was loosing confidence,
You were loosing your balance, I was loosing my patience,
By then I was already at the riverbank,
By then I didn't even care where I've rank,
In this ladder you've always talked to me about,
Nevertheless, you tried to ease all my doubt,
I convinced you that maybe it's not meant to be,
That the future is a mystery that we're unable to see,
Maybe it's time to take a different way,
You told me that I was being too cliche,
"But that's life dear. How hard it is, we'll have to move on,
And do me a favour, do not leave me with a frown"
First thing first!! For the past few months, I seldom watch movies (for several unexplained situations) however here are some few one liners (or more) about couple of films that I saw throughout the year (non-sequenced, because I'm forgetful and that lazy)!! Leggo!!
1. Dark Knight Rises - Must watch! Not as hype as the previous one however it ended great. Anne Hathaway as Catwoman aka Selina is just (wait for it!) Badass!! Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Adorable yet you do not mess with his brain. Christian Bale is by far my favourite Batman aka Bruce Wayne.
2. The Avengers - Non-stop action/comedy/drama. Been waiting for this film to come out since last year! Watch until the very end of the movie. Droll over all of the superheroes (especially Robert Downey Jr.) and Shawarma!
3. Total Recall - Shit just got real for this one! Non-stop (and I mean, Non-Stop!) action sequence. Nothing too messy, the pacing was just right. Lots of cat fights and Colin Farrell's confused face!
4. Battleship - Not feeling it that much, but I like how they've planned their attack towards the aliens with numbers and codes. After all, this movie is based on the popular board game, Battleship.
5. Prometheus - If you love films by Ridley Scott, then you'll enjoy this film. Although the story was quite similar to Aliens, but I read somewhere that this was supposed to be the prequel for Aliens. That explains alot because the whole story is just too 'Alien'. Not really my favourite though.
6. The Amazing Spider-Man - Andrew Garfield... droll!! Also, I prefer this version of Spiderman. Sorry Toby!
7. Twilight Saga : Breaking Dawn Part 1 - Same old... same old. NEXT!!
8. Brave - I now declare my love to the badass-big-curly-hair-princess-with-a-badass-archery-skill!!! Nuff said!
9. Snow White and The Huntsman - The only actor I'd noticed was Charlize Theron because she's Karayyzayylyy good!!
10. Wanderlust - If you're looking for a light comedy, then you should watch this!
11. This Means War - Who wouldn't want to fight for Reese Witherspoon?? I enjoyed watching this.
12. Abraham Lincoln : Vampire Hunter - I like the story and actions. What bothers me was the fact that they've used an actual American figure as the main character. I'm not sure whether its a parody or.... (still confused)
13. Mirror Mirror - Lily Collins is just too adorable!!! Julia Roberts me love!
14. Being Flynn - I broke down after watching it. It's just too close to home. Remarkable storyline. Paul Dano and Robert DeNiro is just too awesome! Seriously a good film!!
I think that's about it!! I might missed out some couple more films but I'll be back whenever I manage to remember them! Enjoy!!!
P/s: Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Maaf Zahir dan Batin. :D
Love. A word that fits perfectly in between I and You. The word itself is so powerful that some people just can't handle it. Some might take it easy, some might feel a lump in their throat saying it. Once you've said it with all you heart and soul pouring out, you'll instantly gain somewhat freedom without realizing that at the same time you are creating a bond.
Do not take the word lightly, as it's a form of mechanism to patch up a deformed heart.
The purpose of this blog originally was to inspire, to review films and to discuss things that matter the most. However, my life has been a turbulence and this blog turned personal. I have no intentions to attract cheap attentions and do believe me, although we are currently living in one narcissistic community where even the littlest stupid things matter most. I live in an environment where your ideology places you to a certain status quo. It's like high school all over again. I chose to be a sponge. I absorb to adapt. It lead me to know lots of kinds of human beings. I learn to love and experience my heart shattered into million of pieces in a split second. Reattached and shattered again. But that made me learn to be a better person. I also learn not to hold grudges, and to forgive eventually (although it's within my nature to forgive instantly!). In my 23 years of living this earth, God gave me the visual of the things that may took 10 to 50 years to experience. I was lucky but not so lucky. I scarred easily and carries a burden that I myself couldn't have imagined. Not to brag, but it's the truth. I saw people's joy, glory, pain and suffering. I see people come and go.
Love this picture of my step dad, he's having his deep thoughts again. Daydreaming perhaps!
I've always envision myself being the helper, the hero, the concrete wall where people could lean on. It gives me slight of relief whenever I manage to help someone on their times in need. I listen to their expression of words, I felt what they were feeling, and it gave me an inspiration to see it and apply it on myself. However, I have come to a point where I need to pay attention to myself, to what I need and what I want in this life. To search who I really am and to obligate the needs of my religion. To understand the meaning of life and to learn the meaning of why am I here. To love unconditionally and learn to really let go and move forward. To welcome new people and to form farewell by the departure of old friends. To create new experience and to preserve memories. To respect and be respected. This time, I'll let nature run its course. This time, I'm opening my heart to new possibilities. This time perhaps, you can call me selfish.
Sorry for the long post! Here's a picture of me chasing a pigeon in the south side of Melbourne... :D
